A travel document is a document that permits certain persons to re-enter the U.S. after they travel abroad. Not anyone should apply. People who have been in the U.S. unlawfully should consult an immigration attorney first. Those that have an application for adjustment of status or asylum pending, or those who are in TPS or refugee status may qualify to travel abroad for an emergent personal or bona fide reason. Applicants must wait for their application to be approved before departing the U.S. The document is valid for one year and must be renewed for travel outside the validity of the initial document.
